Amber Hubbard is a Rising Star!

Graduate student Amber Hubbard participated in the 2018 Rising Stars in Chemical Engineering – An Academic Career Workshop for Women, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Each year, the Department of Chemical Engineering at MIT invites “top early career women who are interested in faculty careers in Chemical Engineering” to apply and participate.

The invitation-only workshop brought together twenty-two doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers from around the country who are approximately one year away from submitting applications for faculty positions. Program activities included research presentations, panel discussions with MIT faculty, communications workshops, and networking events with faculty, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers currently at MIT.

Amber is an NSF Graduate Research Fellow studying stimuli-responsive polymers. She has a passion for mentoring undergraduate students, public speaking, and organizing student outreach. She joined our department in 2014 after graduating from Auburn University with her Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering (with a Specialization in Biomedical Engineering) and plans to graduate from CBE with her Ph.D. in 2019.

Amber is co-advised by Professors Michael Dickey and Jan Genzer. In addition to her academic interests, she’s an award winning photographer.
