NC State Chapter of AIChE Off to a Strong Start this Semester

The NC State student chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) has kicked off the semester with an impressive lineup of professional development activities and community building events. Student members of AIChE have already had the opportunity to meet representatives of ExxonMobil, Eastman, Parker LORD, International Paper and Sylvamo at industry dinners. Student chairs also organized a career fair and have planned events like a popsicle social and canvas painting, which will help students manage their stress throughout the semester. Meet some of the students who are making it all possible.

Meet the Board

Noha Zayan, President
Hey everyone! My name is Noha and I’m a senior majoring in chemical engineering with a concentration in sustainable engineering, energy, and the environment. I’m also double minoring in Spanish and technical and scientific communication. This will be my fourth year as a member of AIChE, serving as the technology chair last year and president this year. I previously interned with EnergySolutions and this past summer with 3M out in Minnesota. Throughout my time at NC State, I have been assisting in the Li lab, researching sustainable conversion of biomass to fuel. I’m also involved as an Engineering Ambassador, Chancellor’s Aide, and ambassador for the CBE department. Looking forward to a great year and can’t wait for all of our events! Please feel free to say hi if you see me around!

Carmen Jarrell, VP of Operations
Hey everyone, I am a senior in chemical engineering concentrating in sustainability and minoring in Spanish. I am passionate about providing networking and career building opportunities for students. On-campus, I am involved in club running, CRU, and I am leading Chem E Car. I did research in the Fedkiw Lab where I studied Li-Ion battery separators, and I have worked in both the paper and pharma industries.

Zac Gill, VP of Industry Relations
Hi I’m Zac Gill! I’m a junior and one-half of VP of Industry Relations with Lauren Kielty. I am currently on co-op with R.E. Mason which means I get held back a year, woo! I’ve been in AIChE and involved in the board for the past two years. I love meeting new people in ChemE and have had a great time in AIChE so far. I really enjoy doing crosswords, chilling with my roommates, State Basketball (we could be better), hitting the gym and also food. I’m excited for this semester (:

Lauren Kielty, VP of Industry Relations
Hi! I’m a junior in chemical engineering with minors in biomanufacturing and business administration. This year I’m one of AIChE’s VP of Industry Relations! I joined AIChE last year and then got more involved after attending the Annual Student Conference in Boston. This summer I interned at Novartis Gene Therapies in manufacturing, science and technology and I’m currently doing a co-op at Biogen in cell culture development! In my free time, I enjoy watching the Great British Bakeoff and playing with my cat, Alfredo. I’m excited to stay involved with AIChE this year!

Zach Whitacre, VP of Finance
Hey! My name is Zach and I am a senior in chemical engineering with a biomolecular concentration and minors in biomanufacturing and biotechnology. I am looking forward to being this year’s VP of Finance! I have been a part of AIChE for the past two years as a co-publicity chair, and am excited to have a more involved role this year! After college I plan on working in the biopharmaceutical field, preferably in R&D. Besides AIChE, I am a member of Tau Beta Pi and ISPE; and outside of school, I love to lift, play racquetball, and spend time with friends. I look forward to meeting everyone this year and making it a great semester!

Elizabeth Vampola, VP of Records
Hi! My name is Elizabeth Vampola and I am currently a senior in chemical engineering. I am the Vice President of Records for the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) and was the social chair last year. I also am involved in the NC Delta Chapter of Pi Beta Phi. Off-campus I have two jobs, at Boron Molecular, a chemical manufacturing company based in Australia, and at Victoria’s Secret. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, traveling, reading, and photography.
