AIChE Student Chapter Racks Up Awards
Despite the pandemic, the AIChE student chapter continues to rack up awards…
First, the chapter earned a 2019-2020 AIChE Outstanding Student Chapter Award. This is the chapter’s 25th Outstanding Student Chapter Award, the 22nd award in the past 24 years and the 10th year in a row they received the award.
Second, the chapter’s Jeopardy Team won the AIChE Southern Regional Conference ChemE Jeopardy competition. That win qualifies the team to compete in the National Conference Jeopardy competition in November.
ChemE Jeopardy utilizes questions from chemical engineering undergraduate coursework. The Jeopardy Games are normally held at the 9 student chapter regional conferences in the spring. In 2020, the Southern Regional Conference was postponed and transformed into a fully-online format during the fall because of covid-19. Nine southeastern schools participated in the event using Zoom.
CBE team members are Abigail Cordiner (captain), Trevor Hinshaw, Mariam Shah, and Jon Calabretta. According to the Chapter advisor, Dr. Kim Roberts, “In addition horseback riding experience and knowledge of Chris Nolan movies, the team credits their channeling of Dr. Velev for their win.”
Congratulations to the Chapter and the Jeopardy Team!
