Alum Greg Hatem Recognized on Power 100 List
CBE alum, Greg Hatem (BS ‘85), was named to Business North Carolina’s “Power List 2023” for Real Estate and Construction.
The Power List is an annual snapshot of some of North Carolina’s most influential leaders.
Greg is the founder and managing partner of Empire Properties, which was originally established in 1995 to “enhance the character of downtown Raleigh”. Now, the company owns over 70 buildings and eateries in downtown Durham and Raleigh. Through his work, Greg has helped to preserve and revitalize several downtown Raleigh properties and has received both local and national recognition for his efforts.
Greg’s company and its leaders have been featured in The New York Times, North Carolina Business, Business Leader magazine, Construction Today, Triangle Business Journal, The News & Observer, and Kiplinger magazine for their restoration work.
Additionally, Greg is an active member of his community and serves on the N.C. Public Health Commission and the N.C. Entrepreneurial Commission, and on the boards of the Moise A. Khayrallah Center for Lebanese Diaspora Studies and the NC Theatre.
Greg’s advice for industry newcomers found in Business North Carolina is, “Work hard and give back to your community. No matter where you are in life, you can make things better for someone else.”
In addition to his business acumen, Greg has been a popular guest speaker in the Senior Design course, sharing his story and encouraging our senior students for the last 15 years. He is a recipient of the CBE Distinguished Alumni Award, has served as an inspirational graduation speaker, and has contributed financially to the department.
