Kaihang Shi Received the AIChE CoMSEF Annual Graduate Student Award
Graduate student Kaihang Shi has received the AIChE Computational Molecular Science and Engineering Forum (CoMSEF) Annual Graduate Student Award. The award “recognizes significant contributions to research in computational molecular science and engineering by graduate students.”
According to their web site, CoMSEF provides an opportunity for communication and networking among engineers and scientists with an interest in the computational molecular sciences and engineering. The group coordinates and sponsors programming that helps promote the exchange of ideas, concepts, know-how and experiences at AIChE national meetings.
Candidates for the Graduate Student Award present a poster within the CoMSEF Poster Session at the AIChE Annual Meeting each year. The award selection criteria include the student’s CV, the nomination letter from the advisor, the quality of the poster, and the student’s ability to describe their research. Winners of the award receive a plaque and an honorarium.
Kaihang’s poster was “High-Pressure Phenomena in Adsorbed Films: A New Route to an Experimental Determination of Effective Tangential Pressure.” His research includes the development of advanced statistical mechanical models for adsorption on heterogeneous surfaces and understanding the physics behind the high-pressure phenomena in confined nano-phases.
Kaihang is a 5th year Ph.D. student, advised by Profs. Keith Gubbins and Erik Santiso. He received his B.S. in Polymer Science and Engineering in 2015 from East China University of Science & Technology in Shanghai, China.
Congratulations Kaihang!
