Joe Lavoie

Joe completed his B.S. in Chemical Engineering at Northeastern University in Boston, MA. During his time there he worked for several nanotechnology and alternative energy startups. After graduation he worked for the U.S. Army as a civilian researcher at the Natick Soldier Research, Development, and Engineering Center (NSRDEC). While working for the Army, he performed research in a number of areas including chemical protection and spray decontamination. After three years there, Joe joined NC State as a graduate student in the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department. Since joining the Khan Group, he has begun working toward a PhD in the area of surface modification of commercial polymeric materials. Working in collaboration with the Nonwovens Institute at NC State University, we are investigating various methods for controlling the surface energy of nonwoven materials.
