The project, Automating Chemical Laboratories, is co-sponsored by the Research Corporation for Science Advancement (RCSA) and the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation. It is the first of this co-sponsorship. Scialog was created by RCSA in 2010, and is short for “science + dialog”.

Prof. Abolhasani will be joining a community of fellows representing institutions across the United States and Canada with combined expertise in multiple distinct fields of synthetic chemistry, integrated and automated instrument development, engineering, materials science, computer and data science, and AI computer research.

The group will focus on identifying and analyzing bottlenecks to advancing fundamental science and how the chemistry curriculum and workforce development must adapt to the changes in how basic chemistry research is conducted.

At NC State University, Prof. Abolhasani leads a diverse research group that studies self-driving labs tailored toward accelerated development and manufacturing of advanced functional materials and molecules using fluidic micro-processors.

Congratulations to Professor Abolhasani on this nomination!
