Professor Carol Hall Elected as Home Secretary of the National Academy of Engineering
Professor Carol K. Hall has been elected as the Home Secretary of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE). The Home Secretary oversees the Academy’s membership activities.
The NAE was established under the charter of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) in 1964 to provide independent advice to the federal government, when requested, on matters of engineering and technology. The NAS charter was signed by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863.
Prof. Hall is the Camille Dreyfus Distinguished University Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. She is also a Fellow of the AIChE, the American Physical Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the world’s largest scientific society. Only small percentages of engineers and scientists are elected as Fellows of a technical society.
Prof. Hall earned her B.S. degree in physics from Cornell University and her Ph.D. degree in physics from Stony Brook University. At NC State, her awards include the R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Award for Excellence in Teaching, Research and Extension, the Alcoa Foundation Distinguished Engineering Research Award, and the Alumni Association Distinguished Graduate Professorship Award.
Nationally and internationally, she is the recipient of the AIChE Founders Award, for outstanding contributions to the field and the Foundations of Molecular Modeling and Simulation (FOMMS) Medal, to honor “profound and lasting contribution by one or more individuals to the development of computational methods and their application to the field of molecular-based modeling and simulation.” In 2008, she was listed in “One Hundred Engineers of the Modern Era” for significant contributions to the profession and society, as part of the AIChE Centennial Celebration.
Congratulations to Dr. Hall on your election and your outstanding professional accomplishments!
