Sherafghan Iftikhar is the Recipient of the Kokes Award from the North American Catalysis Society

Ph.D. student Sherafghan Iftikhar has received the Kokes Award from the North American Catalysis Society for his paper, “Ruthenium-Promoted Perovskites for CO2-Splitting and Syngas Generation in a Chemical Looping Scheme.” Sherafghan was presented this award at the 28th North American Catalysis Society Meeting that was held June 18-23 in Providence, Rhode Island. The Richard J. Kokes Travel Award program encourages student participation and covers a portion of the lodging and conference registration costs. Founded in 1956, the North American Catalysis Society aims to “promote and encourage the growth and development of the science of catalysis and those scientific disciplines ancillary thereto.” The Society also provides educational services for members and organizes professional meetings of scientists to serve as a central exchange for information in the field of catalysis. 

Sherafghan, who is from Lahore, Pakistan, matriculated at NC State in 2019. He obtained his B.S. degree in chemical engineering from COMSATS University in Lahore and his M.S. degree from the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore. 

Sherfghan is a member of Professor Fanxing Li’s Research Group, and he was also recognized as a winner of the Vivian T. Stannett Graduate Award for Outstanding Early Publication in late March.
