My previous research in Hull was concerned with the preparation of anisotropic latex particles. Some of the materials prepared then will be used for the project I will be working on at NCSU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"550\" height=\"420\" src=\"https:\/\/cbe.ncsu.edu\/velevgroup\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2017\/01\/cayre1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-246\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><em>Figure 1:<\/em> Images of anisotropic particles with (clockwise from top left) flying saucer shape, partial coating, ellipsoidal shape, and Janus anisotropies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My research in Dr. Velev\u2019s group is concerned with the use of such anisotropic systems for smart materials applications. We will focus on developing colloidal systems that are able of auto-motion or directed motion under the influence of an external force. In this project we will be using electric field forces as well as high frequency wave energy to induce and control the motion of modified particles.
