Grad Student Zach Campbell – Fulbright Finalist

Graduate student Zachary Campbell was selected to receive a Fulbright Scholarship that funds a fully-paid nine-month research stay at the Institut de Chimie de la Matière Condensée de Bordeaux (ICMCB) in France.

Within the Abolhasani group, Zach’s research includes catalyst screening and optimization for thermophotocatalytic reforming of biogas to syngas for use in Fischer-Tropsch reactions, and development of tunable solvents for more efficient separations. He attended the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he earned his B.S. in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, with a certificate in Scenarios, Models, and Military Games.

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program provides grants for individually designed study/research projects, or for English Teaching Assistant Programs. According to the Fulbright Program website, the program is, “the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. Government.” Also, “The program facilitates cultural exchange through direct interaction on an individual basis in the classroom, field, home, and in routine tasks, allowing the grantee to gain an appreciation of others’ viewpoints and beliefs, the way they do things, and the way they think.”

Zach’s acceptance letter mentions Fulbright recipients include “59 Nobel Laureates, 82 Pulitzer Prize winners, 72 MacArthur Fellows, 16 Presidential Medal of Freedom recipients, and thousands of leaders across the private, public and non-profit sectors.”
