Alumna Dr. Arthi Jayaraman is the Winner of the 2021 AIChE CoMSEF Impact Award
Alumna Dr. Arthi Jayaraman (Ph.D. ‘06) is the winner of the 2021 AIChE CoMSEF Impact Award. She is the Centennial Term Professor for Excellence in Research and Education in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering and a Joint Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Delaware.
CoMSEF, the Computational Molecular Science and Engineering Forum, is an organization within the AIChE that’s similar to an AIChE Division except that its membership is not restricted to AIChE members. It was established to provide an opportunity for communication and networking for the combined community of engineers and scientists developing and applying molecularly based theories, modeling, and simulation.
The Impact Award “recognizes outstanding research in computational molecular science and engineering, encompassing both methods and applications.” The Award is given annually to a CoMSEF member who is within 15 years of completion of their highest degree.
Prof. Jayaraman is cited “for outstanding developments in modeling, theory, and simulation of polymer blends, nanocomposites, solutions, and bio-materials critical to the engineering design of advanced materials.” Her research expertise lies in development of theory and simulation techniques and application of these techniques to study polymer functionalized nanoparticles and polymer nanocomposites, and to design macromolecular materials for biomedical applications. She will deliver a presentation describing her research during the CoMSEF Plenary Session at the 2021 AIChE Annual Meeting.
Prior to joining the faculty at the University of Delaware, Prof. Jayaraman was a faculty member in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Both her research and her teaching have been recognized with numerous awards.
Three other CBE graduates, Drs. Catherine A. Fromen (Ph.D. ’14), April Kloxin (B.S. ’01, M.S. ’04) and Christopher Kloxin (Ph.D. ’06) are members of the UD Chemical and Biological Engineering faculty. Cathy is an assistant professor, April is the Thomas & Kipp Gutshall Development Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and a Joint Professor in Material Science and Engineering, and Chris is an Associate Professor of Materials Science and Engineering and a Joint Professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering.
Congratulations to Professor Jayaraman for this award and your accomplishments it honors!
