Professors Parsons and Dickey Selected to Receive Prestigious Awards

Professors Greg Parsons and Michael Dickey have been selected to receive two prestigious faculty awards:

Professor Parsons has been selected to receive the 2017 Alumni Distinguished Graduate Professorship Award. The Award recognizes outstanding graduate teaching and mentoring.

Professor Parsons is an Alcoa Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, a member of the NC State Research Leadership Academy, and a recipient of the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company Award for Excellence in Teaching, Research and Extension. In 2009 he was recognized for his teaching efforts with the NC State Outstanding Teacher Award and election to the Academy of Outstanding Teachers.

Professor Dickey has been selected to receive the 2017 Alcoa Foundation Distinguished Engineering Research Award from the College of Engineering. This highly competitive award is based on a record of outstanding research achievements by a senior faculty member over a period of at least five years.

Dr. Dickey’s research interests include stretchable, biomimetic, and soft electronics; reconfigurable systems and actuators; self-folding sheets; photosensitive materials; and developing methods to improve the efficiency of functional devices that harvest, store, or consume energy (e.g. solar cells, batteries, and electronic devices). Some of his group’s work was described in the Chemical and Engineering News (c&en) “Top Research of 2016” article, under the “Liquid metals went to work” headliner.
