The 2024 CBE Schoenborn Research Symposium & Exhibition Recap

Congratulations to all of the students that participated in the 2024 CBE Schoenborn Research Symposium & Exhibition! The two-day event showcases the talent and accomplishments of Ph.D. graduate students in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering.

We gratefully acknowledge a gift from Linde for logistical support of the symposium. We also gratefully acknowledge financial support from the Edward M. Schoenborn Graduate Student Fund endowment, established by Russ and Susie O’Dell, which funds the monetary prize for oral and poster award winners.

Both undergraduate and graduate students presented over 70 research posters during the two-day event and 19 fourth and fifth year Ph.D. students competed in our first ever Three-Minute Thesis Competition.

In addition to the research presentations, Dr. Elaine H. Cohen Hubal (Ph.D. ’96) gave a keynote speech on understanding how the relationships between environmental exposures and health outcomes requires consideration of interconnected physical, chemical, biological, and social systems. Dr. Cohen Hubal is a Senior Science Advisor at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and focuses on using a transdisciplinary perspective to uncover the links between environmental exposures and human health.

Young alumni Ryan Dudek (Ph.D. ’20), Amber Hubbard (Ph.D. ’19), Dilara Sen (Ph.D. ’21), and Justin Vento (Ph.D. ’21) also spoke on an insightful panel about starting your career after completing your Ph.D.
